The project aims to support Iraq institutions in the preparation of the Second National Communication (SNC) and the Biennial Update Report (BUR) to the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), contributing to develop appropriate strategy for climate mitigation.

Goals

The goal of the project is to prepare and submit Iraq’s Second National Communication (SNC) to fulfil its obligations to the UNFCCC, well as provide other new information required to meet other obligations under the Convention, namely the Biennial Update Report (BUR).

Objectives

- Assessing National Circumstances and institutional arrangement report relevant to the SNC and BUR1, reflecting level and challenges in mainstreaming climate change into national development policies; - Assessing pre-esxisting local knowledge related to climate change; - Increasing local knowledge related to climate change mitigation; - Develop and approve BUR1 and SNC.
