About

The project is an initiative of the Government of Sudan with the aim of contributing to the CGIAR research and technology and at the same time be able to benefit from it. The research on agricultural dryland systems has the the highest potential of benefiting to Sudan’s agriculture. The main focus of the project is that of identifying and disseminating improved crops varieties, range, livestock and sustainable farming practices. The ultimate goal is improved food security, nutrition and NRM.

Impact

Goals
In terms of strategic goals the projects main aims are : - Reduced Poverty - Capacity Development - Improved Natural Resources Systems and Ecosystems Services These are to be achieved through 3 different project components, as following: - Agro-pastoral Systems: improved Resilience and Productivity - Watershed Management: improved agricultural water productivity - Irrigation Management: Sustainably Intensified Wheat-Legume Systems
Objectives
The three project components and relative goals are aimed at: - Increasing agricultural productivity in general; - building resilience; - livelihoods’ enhancement; - Reducing land degradation; - Enhancing partner and beneficiaries’ research and development capacity.
Impact pathways
The impact pathways wants to represent the logic of the project. At its core are the three main components identified on the basis of project components which fall under Project Research & Development Outcomes. Each of these is represented as an achievement that derives from reaching the six determined project outputs. Achieving goals at output and outcomes level will contribute to reach project objectives, i.e. sub-intermediate Development outcomes- as specified on the logframe. The sub-intermediate development outcomes fall under specific system level goals- CGIAR strategic goals, which in this case have been identified to be: Reduced Poverty; Capacity Development; Improved NRM.
