The President of Lebanon, H.E. Joseph Aoun, awarded Dr. Michel Antoine Afram, Chairman of the Board and Director General of the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI), and ICARDA Board of Trustees Member, the Agricultural Merit Medal, Knight Rank, in recognition of 46 years of achievements, integrity, and financial transparency.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Minister of Agriculture Dr. Nizar Hani; Dr. Afram’s mother, Ms. Alexandra Makaryoun; his son, Dr. Antonio Afram; and his daughter, Dr. Misha Afram.

The President praised Dr. Afram’s accomplishments and character, wishing him continued success and prosperity. Dr. Afram pledged to uphold the values outlined in the Presidential Decree accompanying the medal. He had previously received the Knight Medal from the former President and currently holds 14 European and American medals. 

“I will continue to uphold the values of knowledge, honesty, transparency, and integrity, and to support those in need," said Dr. Afram. 

He also wished prosperity for all Lebanese people.
