ICARDA’s Director General, Aly Abousabaa, represented CGIAR Executive Managing Director Ismahane Elouafi at the Mo Ibrahim Governance Weekend in Marrakech, joining the session hosted by ATLAS – Agricultural Transitions Lab for African Solutions – and the OCP Group, titled: "Implementing Africa’s Agricultural Transformation for Food and Climate Security" on June 3, 2025.

The session explored concrete pathways for action through public-private alignment, climate-smart agricultural practices, Africa-Europe collaboration, and innovative financing mechanisms. Together, these efforts can help turn Africa’s agricultural transformation into a lasting reality.

During his intervention, Aly Abousabaa emphasized:
"Science can transform agriculture in Africa, but investments in research and innovation remain far too low. We need to change this by working together with governments, farmers, and the private sector to invest in research and innovations that empower smallholder farmers and build food and livelihood security in their communities."
