On June 12 and 13, 2024, the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) will hold the 20th meeting of its System Council in Brasilia, Brasil. While the primary focus of the meeting will center around discussions concerning CGIAR's 2025-30 Research and Innovation Portfolio, side events are scheduled for Monday 10, Tuesday 11, and Friday 14 June.

The CGIAR System Council, composed of representatives of Funders and developing countries, plays a crucial role in reviewing and ensuring the strategy, mission, impact, and relevance of the CGIAR System in the dynamic field of agricultural research for development. With up to 20 voting members, including Funders and developing country representatives, the Council collaborates with the CGIAR System Board to fulfill CGIAR's mission, benefitting from the involvement of important partners as non-voting members or active observers. Guided by the CGIAR System Framework, the Council's functions encompass vision and strategic direction, governance, partnership engagement and resource mobilization, as well as financial and programmatic performance evaluations and impact assessment

As the only dryland research center within CGIAR, ICARDA holds membership in CGIAR and will actively engage in this significant meeting, with representation from its Director General, Aly Abousabaa, who is also CGIAR's Regional Director of the region of Central and Western Asia and North Africa (CWANA).
