Developing resilient plant varieties to meet current and future challenges
Research Programs
To address critical challenges and strengthen resilience across the dry areas ICARDA advances scientific knowledge, shapes practices, and informs policy through three research programs:
Strengthening integrated crop-livestock farming systems through the optimization of economic, social and environmental conditions
Supporting the sustainable use of water and land resources through rainfed, irrigated and agro-pastoral farming
The research and development agenda implemented by these three programs covers five strategic priorities: conserving and developing genetic resources; climate change adaptation; strengthening resilience; promoting value chains and policies; and enhancing water and land productivity.
These priorities are supplemented by four cross-cutting research themes: scaling-up proven technologies; empowering women and youth; building capacity; and Big Data and ICT.
