About

“The Project for Enhancement of Agricultural Productivity” has been launched to contribute to reducing rural poverty and building resilience of vulnerable farming families in the Upper Egypt and Nile Delta Regions of Egypt through improving the utilization of water for agriculture as well as increasing agricultural productivity for smallholder farmers, raising incomes and creating economic opportunities for poor rural households in three selected governorates; Menia, Qena and Kafr ElShiekh.

Impact

Goals
The Project will contribute to reducing rural poverty and building resilience of in vulnerable farming families in the Upper Egypt and Nile Delta Regions of Egypt. This contribution will be achieved by improving the utilization of water for agriculture, increasing agricultural productivity for smallholder farmers, and raising incomes, and creating economic opportunities for poor rural households.
Objectives
The project aims to work towards achieving increased crop yields per unit of irrigation water used over time and improving food security and income generation in selected Haya Karima villages in Minya, Qena, and Kafr El Sheikh Governorates through many activities, including training and capacity building.
Impact pathways
The project's activities include supporting smallholder farmers to establish group-owned climate-smart Agri voltaic greenhouses, supporting smallholder farmers to install, operate and maintain solar pumping units and low-energy drip irrigation systems for demonstration to peer farmers. The project also aim to support smallholder farmers to develop microtopography induced soil salinity control measures for demonstration to peer farmers, to develop lightweight raised bed machines (RBMs) and digital extension tools.
