CGIAR Science Week 2025

ICARDA is thrilled to announce that it will be participating in the inaugural CGIAR Science Week, taking place from April 7-12, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya.
In a world in which hunger and malnutrition are rising, and climate change is pushing us further from our goals, innovation and partnerships offer humanity our best hope. Join the CGIAR research centers and their partners to forge partnerships and inspire change for resilient food, water and land systems.
Drawing on CGIAR science and partnerships from around the world, the event will bring together the community working for a food, nutrition, and climate-secure future to:
- Co-create a roadmap for food, land, and water systems transformation
- Forge partnerships for action
- Build the case for investment
- Inspire change
Plenary Program.
CGIAR Science Week’s plenary program will bring together global and regional leaders in research, policy, and development to discuss how we can harness and scale science and innovation. ICARDA Director General, Aly Abousabaa will engage in a number of high-level plenaries, including “Targeting Transformation—Africa & Harvesting Innovation—Latin America & Caribbean” on April 9th for the Panel Discussion “2050 Vision for Africa: a dialogue between CGIAR leaders and some key partners.” He will also participate in the closing ceremony on April 11th.
Strategy Dialogues
Science Week will feature outstanding and diverse strategy dialogues discussing various programs from the new CGIAR Portfolio 2025-2030, which will be officially launched during the event. As an active contributor to this portfolio, ICARDA will engage in stakeholder discussions within these sessions, ensuring that CGIAR research and innovation are truly demand-driven and address the needs of local, regional, and global stakeholders. The programs will include Climate Action, the Genebanks Accelerator Strategy, Breeding for Tomorrow, Sustainable Farming, Capacity Sharing, Gender Equality and Inclusion, Sustainable Animal and Aquatic Foods, Better Diets and Nutrition, Scaling for Impact and more.
Side Events
We're excited to co-host a daylong side event on Delivering Resilient Drylands on April 10th, from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, alongside other CGIAR centers—ICRISAT, Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, CIFOR-ICRAF, CIMMYT, CIP, IFPRI, IITA, ILRI, IWMI, and WorldFish—to celebrate and advance the work being done under the CGIAR 2030 Global Strategy for Resilient Drylands. During this event, ICARDA will highlight key initiatives such as Integrated Desert Farming and the Red Palm Weevil Control Project.
Exhibitions
Additionally, we will participate in the CGIAR Science Week expo. The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team will host the “Monitoring and Evaluation for CGIAR Science Success” exhibition, which will showcase data analysis and reflection on different program outcomes, identify best practices, and highlight areas for enhancement to maintain the relevance and impact of CGIAR work. Through an Interactive Helpdesk and engaging quiz game, the audience will gain a comprehensive understanding of the critical role the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) platform plays in advancing scientific research and development.
Furthermore, ICARDA scientists will participate in CGIAR’s “Breeding for Tomorrow: Partnering to Transform Crop Innovation for Smallholder Impact” exhibition, featuring Bioflow, the CGIAR Breeding Analytics Pipeline.
CGIAR Science Week offers a great opportunity to connect with experts from around the world, engage with visionary leaders, and experience game-changing innovations Check out the full program and register for this exciting event: here.
